Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle), an agency under the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia (MOF) is a not-for-profit organisation that manages the RM100 million Cradle Investment Programme since its inception in 2003. An additional RM175 million was recently added to this allocation under the 10th Malaysia Plan for 2011 – 2015.
Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd. (Cradle) offers three different types of grants for up to RM 500K to enterprises in the science and tech fields. Cradle also runs the Angel Tax Incentive programme, which offers tax breaks for angel investment in Malaysian start-ups and makes sure that businesses are eligible to receive investments. In terms of entrepreneur development, Cradle offers a one-on-one entrepreneurship coaching programme, a prototype “ideas bank” where entrepreneurs can continue with further stages of commercialisation and funding, and training opportunities through its Competency Building Unit. It also helps start-ups develop strategic partnerships, increases publicity and exposure, and provides product development services for enterprises in all stages of growth.
Cradle runs the Cradle Investment Programme (CIP), Coach & Grow Programme (CGP) and administers the Angel Tax Incentive. CIP offers pre-seed funding (CIP Catalyst & U-CIP Catalyst), which funds product development processes and seed funding (CIP 500) for commercialisation purposes. CGP is a market-driven programme intended to train local budding entrepreneurs. The Angel Tax Incentive was designed to stimulate angel investments into technology based start-up companies in Malaysia.
